Safety First: Avalanche Awareness at Arctic Splitboard Festival
We are fully committed to ensuring the safety of all participants.
As we explore the stunning backcountry, we never forget the importance of being prepared. Your safety is our top priority.
That’s why we insist on the following safety measures for everyone involved in our events:
Know the terrain We make sure all participants are fully informed about the terrain and snow conditions. We avoid high-risk areas and educate everyone on how to recognize avalanche-prone zones.
Check avalanche forecasts Before setting out, we ensure that participants check the latest avalanche reports, observations on RegObs and weather conditions. Staying informed is the first step in avoiding danger.
Essential gear All participants are required to carry rescue equipment, including a beacon, shovel, and probe. These tools are non-negotiable for anyone entering the backcountry. Practice using them before heading out is essential.
Good practice and group dynamics We focus on the importance of communication in the group, to be transparent and collaborative in the decision making process.
Recognize the warning signs We provide education on how to spot the signs of an unstable snowpack, such as cracks or collapsing snow among others. Understanding these warning signs could be the difference between life and death.
Know what to do in an emergency We ensure that all participants are educated on how to react in the event of an avalanche. The right response can save lives, and being prepared is key. By training before, on the mountain and after we teach all aspects.
At Arctic Split Fest, we don’t take safety lightly. We are dedicated to creating an environment where adventure meets responsibility. Also making it easier to learn in the field. We insist that every participant is open to be trained, equipped, and informed to minimize the risk and enjoy the backcountry safely.
Your safety is our responsibility—let’s work together to ensure everyone has a safe, enjoyable experience in the beautful mountains of Finnmark.
